Real - color e-ink killed the 'too slow' objection in 2026.
Multiple reviewers daily-driving 10+ devices in 2026 confirm that 300 PPI color displays across Boox, reMarkable Paper Pro, and Kindle Scribe Color have ended the speed objection - the debate is now which philosophy to buy, not whether to buy.
- Consensus

reMarkable's subscription paywall - charging monthly for note search and linking - is the category's sharpest friction point, with buyers arguing these features should be included in the price of a premium device. YouTube source: I Spent Months Trying to Quit Paper.

E-ink tablets can finally replace iPads - Boox Air5 C
This is the Boox Note Air 5C. It's an Android e-paper tablet and that puts it kind of in between worlds for this sort of device, right? It's not a tablet, it's not an e-reader, uh but it's a little bit of both and there's some really interesting benefits to that, but there's also some really interesting compromises. It's a little bit slow to start up and that feels a little weird for an e-ink device when you think you'd want to get right into it. I'm an avid reader. Right now I have a Kobo Clara HD, uh which is one of the reasons that I'm ready to upgrade. I've had it for a while. It's it's getting a...

I’m starting to realize E-Ink tablets can do A LOT more than I thought 👀 The iFLYTEK @theainote 2 takes that distraction-free, pen-to-paper
This might be one of the smartest AI tablets you can own right now. This is the iFLYTEK AI Note 2, the world's thinnest e-ink tablet. It's only 4.2 millimeters thick and weighs about 295 grams, with a matte E-ink display and pen that makes writing feel surprisingly close to actual paper. So, of course, you can use it like a regular e-ink tablet for writing notes, drawing, or even reading. But that's really just scratching the surface of what this thing can do. Let's say you're in a meeting, the AI Note 2 can transcribe the entire conversation in real-time, while you write your own notes and underline important points directly on the screen. It supports transcription in 18...

The Ultimate Color E-Ink Tablet Buying Guide
On the surface, the Kindle Scribe Color Soft, remarkable paper pro, and Boox Note Air 5C look like close relatives. Color e-ink, built for note-taking, and sitting in a similar size and price range. But, once you spend a few minutes with them, that they're basically the same impression falls apart quickly. These devices make very different trade-offs how they handle color, how they feel to write on, what their software lets you do, and what kind of workflow they're actually built for. And, that's the trap. You buy one assuming they're basically interchangeable and end up disappointed because you accidentally picked the wrong philosophy. If you just want a quick answer before we go deeper, here's the upfront summary....

I Spent Months Trying to Quit Paper.
I have paper everywhere. I've got field notes, a work notebook, a to-do list. Now, it's fine having a single notebook and pen at home on my nightstand, but at work, my desk is always a disaster. And there has to be a better way. So, I got an e-ink writing tablet to replace it all, the reMarkable 2. And honestly, it's pretty neat. The writing experience is top-notch, it has a long battery life, and it keeps unlimited notes. For the first time in months, I actually like how my desk is organized. But, there's one huge problem. reMarkable charges you a monthly subscription to search through your notes, create links, and features that really should be included since...

Best e-ink tablet for note taking and reading
For me the real battle should be between the Note air 5c ( that you didn't mention but would suit your needs perfectly ) and the manta who pretty consistently ranks in the top of the reviews , a huge defenser of this model is the pretty famous reviewer Kit betts Masters , i would recommend you watch I have a Note Air 5C that I got for nursing school, and am very happy with it. rM is not a closed system at all. you get root on it out of the box and the developer community for it is very strong. additionally you can run your own sync service for it either with rmfakecloud or UltraBridge. that said, for...

Best e-ink tablet for note taking and reading
I'm considering buying an e-ink tablet for university. I'll mainly be using it for writing maths and physics, with some occasional reading of PDFs and books. I've looked at the BOOX Go 10.3 (Gen 1 and Gen 2), reMarkable Paper Pure, and Supernote Manta. Overall, I'm leaning towards the BOOX Go 10.3, but I'm unsure which generation to get. My understanding is that the 1st gen uses a Wacom EMR pen, w

The Three Very BEST E-Ink Tablets are Just Special!
But the Note Air Max is exactly what it says. If you want a note taking device and you want it to be as big as possible, this is just flipping brilliant, [music] really. If you want to read it and you want it to be as big as possible, this is absolutely brilliant. It's genuinely special, this device, just because of that sheer size, the space for making notes is just [music] absolutely wonderful. I just think it's, yeah. I just think it's absolutely brilliant. If you need lots of room to set out your thoughts, you've now got the infinite canvas notes, which this is obviously isn't an infinite canvas notes, but that is an option to use....

Which E-Ink Tablet is Actually Worth Your Money in 2026?
Which e-ink tablet is actually worth it? Look, I own way too many e-ink tablets. Boox, remarkable, Vwood, AI Note 2, you name it. Everyone keeps asking me about specs, but honestly, specs don't matter when you're actually using these every day. Today, let's skip the hype. I'm telling you which ones I'd actually spend my own money on and which ones are just going back in the box. Rule number one, the size problem. First, let's talk about the big guys. The Boox Note Air Max and Tab X are cool, but here's my hot take. I'm not buying a 13-in e-ink tablet. Why? Because if I'm carrying something that big, I'm just taking my laptop. An ultrabook gives...

It's 2026 and the [music] e-ink is too slow argument is officially dead. We now have 300 PPI displays, color [music] displays, AI integrated note searching, and refresh rates that actually keep up with a fast-moving pen. But with all these new releases, it's easier than ever to buy the wrong device for your workflow. [music] I've spent the past few years daily driving the top contenders, and today I'm breaking down the absolute best e-ink note takers by category, so you don't waste your money on hype. Now, if you're looking at a color e-ink note taker, I think there's three categories you can choose from. In a more simplistic category, there's the remarkable paper pro, which is an...

What e-ink phone is the best?
Likely the upcoming Hisense A10 I have used the Hibreak Pro b&w for a year and a half or so. It works perfectly for everything. It has a little more ghosting than when I bought it, but nothing too noticeable. I highly recommend it. The only downside is that it runs Android 14, which may become an issue for online banking whenever Google drops security support (probably in a year or so.) Ive had every eink phone and the only one I ended up keeping is the bigme hibreak S and the Mudita Kompakt. The hibreak pro I didnt like mainly because it's so big, typing was iffy and it just felt more straining to my eyes. The minimal phone...

Best E-Ink Tablet for Students in 2026 (I Tested 8 With Real Textbooks)
All of these have the same textbook loaded. Smaller text, images, chapter markers, graphs, and a lot of things that you find on your average textbook. So, this is the same file on the same page of all these e-ink tablets. And a few of these cannot do things that students need the most, which is get the files back off the devices in a way that you can turn it in. So, we're going to run all of these through the exact same test and show which I actually buy for school use. I'm judging these on one job, being the best student tablet, and that's it. So, first we're going to talk about getting in and opening. I...

Add synced and device-local settings profiles
Some appearance choices are context-specific. An e-ink or daylight setup is the motivating case: if a user tunes Boris for a black and white e-ink reader, those settings may sync to their profile and make the app look bad the next time they open it on a phone or another color device. Add settings p

[Feature]: use the vendor e-ink refresh controls (Onyx EpdController) for faster interaction on e-paper
## Problem On e-paper tablets the reader repaints through the same generic Android path as any LCD device, so every screen the app draws gets whatever refresh mode the launcher happened to leave set. On an Onyx Boox that usually means a full, slow, high-quality refresh for interactions that would b

handwriting on non-Supernote devices: an app-drawn ink path is required
### Correction This issue was opened asking whether handwriting is "in scope" on non-Supernote tablets. That was wrong and the question should not have been posed. Handwriting is **first-class**, stated in both the README and CLAUDE.md: > A Rust-core, e-ink-first document reader with **first-class

How good are E-ink Monitors
I love my Bigme eink monitor, it completely relieves my screen intolerance symptoms. Just don’t expect eink to perform the way LCD does, or you’ll be very disappointed. It’s a unique technology that’s very different from LCD and has its drawbacks but also major advantages for those of us who can’t tolerate standard screens Edit: if you’re in the US or somewhere else with robust disability laws, yo I use my large color Bigme monitor daily at work. It’s fantastic and has just about eliminated my migraines, just don’t expect every color to appear (literally, mine has a hard time with light colors on spreadsheets). Video / zoom is decent. Make sure you turn off night-shift on your computer. I...

One E-Ink Tablet to Rule Them All: Boox Note Air 5C REVIEW
What if a single color e- in device could replace your notebook, your books, and your tablet? That's exactly what the Books Note Air 5C sets out to do. It reads like a Kindle, writes like a Remarkable, and runs apps like a Galaxy Tab. All while competing head-to-head with other color e- in tablets like the Remarkable Paper Pro, the Books Tab XC, and of course, its predecessor, the Note Air 4C. With Android 15 and Google Play, a redesigned pen, improved writing feel, brighter front light, and a redefined user interface. The 5C promises to be Books's most versatile and futurep proof eing device yet. And while the upgrades might look subtle, they could bring the Note Air...

This post inspired me to turn on the greyscale filter once again on my phone. Thanks op! What kind of a reader is that one? I didn’t know these phones exist! Will definitely give it a look. Can you tell me how long the battery lasts?
